Probably vibration from the pipes moving (ie., they're not secured to the joists/studs/etc.).
More importantly, though, if you post this to the main board you'll get a lot more informed opinions. If you look above, this is 3 folders down - 1. Breaktime, 2. About Breaktime, 3. (1) Getting around. Try posting in the 1. Breaktime-Fine Homebuilding discussions.
*Sharon, If you have a loose washer in a globe valve, It will make that kind of noise. I have also heard it from some faucets and toilets, the cause is the same. Make sure your shutoff valves are all wide open. Try closing valves one at a time to see if the noise goes away. Then replace the washer in that valve. Sometimes a mild case of water hammer can cause that problem also. Good luck Kevin
