Good choice Ed,
Mad Dog knows his stuff. As far as hidden deck fasteners are concerned the EB-TY is the best looking and easiest to install. I’ve seen countless applications with the EB-TY fasteners on higher end projects such as Pau Lope.

Did you ever try Shadoetrack or Dec-Klips as an alternative to EB-TY?
I need to install TREX without topside fasteners.
*Hey Jag, I thought you were into the EB-TY's. They are a lot easier to install, and look a whole lot better when looking down on the surface, because they're black rather than the shiny metalic of the dic-klips or the shinytrack.
*GE: I never received the testimonial yet. I'm 95% sure going with EB-TY's except for the fact that they require many cuts in the decking sidewall to install. Being a horizontal cut where water cannot escape, I think that TREX may crack in these areas due to ice expansion during the winter months. Has anyone experienced such a problem using these fasteners?

We don't build a lot of decks, but we have to install a second floor deck out of pau lope wood that will be exposed below. The architect wants no face nails or screws. What type of fastener do you guys suggest? I know there are a lot of different kinds. No, I'm not going to glue it down so forget that.
Thanks,
Ed. Williams
*Ed, Check out Eb Ty. It's the same shape as biscuits for biscuit joinery. The installation takes place from the topside of the deck. You cut biscuit slots in each deck board where it crosses a joist. You then apply a thin bead of const adhesive to the top of the joists and drive a #7x2-1/4" stainless trim head screw through the EbTy clip and decking board and into the joist at a 45 degree angle which locks everything together like a tongue and groove hardwood floor. The Eb Ty will give you a 3/32" spacing between deckboards and ends up being invisible. The manufacturer recommends the Eb Tyfor hardwoods such as Pau Lope and Ipe. They cost $450/1000 and can be ordered from Mc Feely's, http://www.mcfeeleys.com, 1-800-443-7937.
*Hey Ed. I forgot to mention that installation of the first board is done with screws through face of board and then plugged with dowel of same wood. Eb Ty fastens everything else.
*Thanks Mad Dog,I'll check it out.Ed. Williams

*In your case EB-TY is probably the best choice since the decking is also viewed from below. Otherwise I'd pick something like DeckMaster. EB-TY leaves no room for adjustment. That is, if things are out of square you can't graduate the spacing between boards.
*Ed, Mad Dog right on the money, I've used them and like them alot. Does'nt add much extra time to the install either. Bill Swales
