hidden tv projector

drbgwood | Posted in General Discussion on September 26, 2005 03:07am

I have a customer that wants me to build a coffey table type cabinet that will hold a tv projector that pops up out of the top of the table for use, then retracts back hidden into the table when not in use.

The projector is about 1 foot square, 6 inches high.

anyone know of where (around raleigh nc) to find hardware for this type of design?  I’ve looked thru woodworkers supply and rockler, but havn’t found anything yet.

Does it have to pop up?  After all, if it pops up, you have to move stuff off the top of the table before you watch TV, which is a drag.  Can't the projector just shoot out the side of the coffee table?

Some of the lift kits are designed to take the top with them, so the only worry is for things across the edge of the pop-up.

I'm still trying to picture how this "coffee table" sets on the floor with video, power, etc. cables coming in.  But, then, calling it an "island cabinet" is not more informative, either.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)

Hafele has a sisor lift just for this purpose. The top lid stays horizontal so you do not have to move anything to operate it.http://www.hafeleamericas.com/usa/FrankieThere he goes—one of God's own prototypes—a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. I've used Auton equipment before to make a church pulpit that the top needed to be heighth adjustable for handicap accessibility. Auton isn't cheap, but it is well made and quiet. I would use their stuff again.
