I'm sure CT will agree, but to answer your question - Nope
Is the hill the result of filling in the site?
How deep are the concrete piers into the ground?
Were the concrete piers founded on virgin undisturbed soil?
How were the wood posts connected to the concrete piers?
Where home located?
Pics would help. not just a closeup of the post/pier but also a broader view of the home & hillside.
People were amazed and ridiculing my 12' deep footings for masonry columns for a deck/porch. 6'x36" sonotube with 14 #5 rebar and stirrups. CMU column on top of that, the first 6' underground and about 8' above grade. Yeah, 6' deep I was at undisturbed soil, but the bottom of the footing would have been about 4' away from the edge of the slope. So down we went until we were sufficiently past the angle of influence. Get an engineer, Listen to your engineer, follow their instructions.
Thanks. The practical & pragmatic engineers like myself appreciate your comment. Our goal is to keep people and their structures both safe and reasonably economical.

EDIT: Not surprising that some folks would ridicule. Foundations for ANY structure are the first to be constructed and the last to be easily corrected if proven inadequate. They are also sometimes the first to be compromised by penny-pinching. My philosophy is that you only get one shot to get it right - overbuilt slightly is always better than allowing economics to get in the way.
