I have a Max framing gun and like it a lot. But, I’ve read that Hitachi is making some good guns, also.
The local Lowes has the Hitachi for a good bit lower than my local nailgun store has the Max for.
Does anyone have experience with both brands, so that they can offer comparisions?

Awwww Mike..... you can't lose there brother. The MAX will always be money well spent, but those Hitachi's are die hard work horses. They may not be as flashy or tricked out, but they're light and dependable. If you found one on the cheap I'd grab it if you're looking for another roofer.
I'm actually looking for my first roofer, and I was concerned since this was at Lowes that it was a DIY model or low-end tool.
I firmly believe in the "buy a good tool and you'll only cry once" philosophy.
Thanks.
I own a Max, bought it new about 10 years ago. The company I work for has hitachi, The hitachi guns are bigger, heavier, and harder to load. (personal opinion) However, the max seems to have more rinky-dink plastic parts than the hitachis, and stuff is starting to break on it.
They both shoot about the same.
Bought the Hitachi yesterday, used it for about 3 hours and like it a lot. The magazine is plastic which concerns me about durability, but we'll see.
