I got off work early today. Working on a remodel that I first designed after talking to an old friend (the homeowner). Asked if HO minded if I gave the guy I work for a heads up and they could talk and my guy would give frien an estimate to do the work. The guy I work for goes and convinces my friend to completely change what we drew up together–goes from two story 26×12 remodel with bigger bedroom and bath over new family room and bigger dining room to being a one story 10×20 with only new family room and bigger dining room downstairs and bumping bigger bath into spare bedroom and deleting spare bedroom upstairs. Then friend called and said he had been convinced to do something he didn’t want and went back to two story (original) plan.
By the time we started work at the beginning of this week, HO had flipped back to no addition whatsoever, putting bigger bath and walk-in closet in old bedroom upstairs, and hang us build a new bedroom (and egress window with well) in basement. Wife also wanted washer/dryer moved around corner to where there was no drain in floor for accidents and use a 6×8 room as the bedroom, but boss talked her out of that. In addition, I had talked to wife about removing or painting at least part of dark stained (Colonial Maple) panelling in formal dining room because whe had said it was too dark in that room. When I talked to her, she said she had decided to keep that room exactly as it was. The first thing we did Monday, per wife’s instructions, was to tear off the panelling and drywall and put up new drywall to be painted.
Today between boss not being sure what to do with tub, lavs and cabinets in upstairs bath, and HO’s not being sure what they wanted, we just delivered materials, cleaned up and left. So I have a wasted day. But, better to wait until they are all sure what the **** we’re doing than to build and rip out later.
I still think the bathroom plan, now long and skinny and wife objecting to the end of the bath (about 6 x 5 space) being used only for linen cabinets, is not good no matter what is done. My plan had a little alcove for toilet, with adjacent lav that could be closed off from bathtub in an alcove and another lav. My plan also had a bed alcove and window seat in second floor bump out and added new closets and expanded teeny 3/4 bath into old closets to allow a full sized shower instead of a small one with the corner cut off. What’s messing us up is 12″ diameter air conditioning ducts in bad locations. Are switching them with in-wall-cavity 3-1’2″ x 14″ ducts, but still a mess. I hope we can start fresh on Tuesday and get some real work done.
