Hi all
I am looking for a book that explains home heating systems, sizing, troubleshooting, maintenance….A couple that I have come across are “Heating Handbook” by Chase Powers and “Forced Air Furnances” by Roger Vizi. Anybody have any other suggestions or info that may help me? Thanks.

I would try Audel, they have many books pertaining to the mechanical field. If a book store does not have them they can get them in a day or two. Lots of luck. ______________________________________________________________________
I find most any book works well for home heating....just make sure the fire's good and hot; there's a lot of ash in printed paper, too.
Can you read? That is a total bogus post, will this help the original post? I thought that was why we are on line to help solve problems, guess not.
It's too bad that some people are born without a sense of humor. Please hit your reboot button, and return to your dull existence.
LOL, I thought the same thing, as last winter actually did burn a whole 1966 set of Grolier Encyclopedias. Newspaper better for fire starters.
On the main subject, take a look at the government printing office web site, http://www.gpo.gov/
My dad had all kinds of phamplets about home heating from the 1930s and 40s from them, and that is where I learned the initial facts. Have not however researched the current list, but 10 years ago they had good pahmplets on trade studies between Heat pumps, vs Nat gas; benefits of different air cleaners, etc.
Many localities have spreadsheets they want/require you to use vs. Manual J, etc. This link is a WA state example: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=51-11
You don't get my point. How many posts think that this is a joke? How about the poor SOB that has a prob. and he reads your response and thinks that it is gospel; burn the books. You need to put a caveat on that post. I may be wrong, but i'm on this forum to teach and to learn. I don't want to start a pizzing contest
If you honestly think that someone is going to take the suggestion to burn the books seriously, then I'm not sure that you would be capable of teaching anyone. Get a grip man, you obviously haven't read many posts on this forum if you think one jesting response is a travesty of justice, and in need of correction.
I expect that next you'll start a long diatribe about how the use of the term "piffin screws" is an affront to purists everywhere, and is likely to result in thousands of misguided homeowners confusing hardware store clerks with requests for piffin screws.
RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You win! I will not get into a pizzing contest. they take up the space that we can be using to help someone
It was a joke....BTW, years ago I heated with wood and tried using surplus library books being given away.Books don't burn worth crap unless you really tear 'em up.

Contact the Air Conditoning Contractors of America (ACCA) and get their
Manual D residential duct systems
Manual J residential load calculation
Manual P Psychrometrics: Theory and Apps
Manual S residential equipment selection
Manual T Air distribution basics for residential applications
They have others too but if you want to go that far then consider getting a degree in fluid dynamics engineering.

Everytime I check that site I can only read threads that have been active for the last three days. Do you know of anyway to easily change that. I havn't been able to find one.Tom
