I’ve done a major reno on my home the past 8 mo’s. I had a new furnace installed and I know it runs. I had to remove the thermostat to hang drywall I’m not sure what I did but I’m not gettin the thing to turn on. My suspicion is that I’ve rewired the thermostat wrong. Can anyone tell me how to go about wiring a thermostat

....go look at the terminal strip on the furnace ....and match colors to letters on the stat"......just be sure the furnace power is off or you could blow a fuse and or damage the circuit board
...was the power off when you disconnected the stat?
....is there power to the furnace?

Thanks for your reply, the furnace was off all summer. So I'll assume I didn't wreck anything. Any reccomendations for a thermostat. I just would like a programable on so I can save a little on heat. I appreciate your input. Nick
I like the Carrier programmable thermostats because they don't require any batteries. Some of the battery powered ones will stop working when the battery dies and you'll loose heat. If that happens when you are not home in the winter it can be trouble.
The Carrier's require one additional wire so unless you have a spare you'll have to run new wiring between the thermostat and the furnace.
...well if you are home throughout the day a programmable stat won't save you too much, they do offer flexibility for a seven day schedule however.
I would suggest you talk to an HVAC supplier rather than the big box alternative, as they would be more helpful with any connection or "ease" of programming questions.
As for what make....
I have no preference, I install what has been spec'd and never fiddle with them for fear I will break the darn things as another suggestion, try talking to your Gas Utility and ask if they have any "programs" or rebates for your efforts in conserving energy"
O.k the furnace is up and running, I've got some idea's for thermostats from and old finehomebuilding I guess I'm ready for winter. Thanks for your help.
You may have already bought your new thermostat, so this is probably a moot point. We've had a programmable thermostat from Lux for 7 years and it works just fine. The thing came with instructions so that even I could install it - it was inexpensive and is battery operated. I think I've replaced the batteries once.
have not bought the 'stat' yet so I thankyou for your input.
