I just completed a tile job this weekend. The grout dried a lot lighter than the test batch. How can I darken the grout short of removing and starting again? Is there such a thing as grout stain? Who makes it? Has anyone ever used it? What about cement stain?

Grout dye. Find a supplier for tile grout and you will be home.
Tim Mooney
The supplier wants $150 for the amount I need. He suggested a 1:1 dilution of latex paint in my desired color applied with a brush. That sounds way too funky for me. Has anyone tried it?
Try some sealer on a test sample and see if that darkens it. Maybe you can tint the sealer with some universal colors and try that if clear sealer doesn't do anything. My kids and dog can substantially darken the grout in a short time, but the shade is variable and indeterminate.
"Grout Colorant" made by Custom Building Products of Seal Beach California is available in a wide variety of colors. It is easy to use, and is also easy to mix for a custom color. On brand new grout it is very easy to apply with no prior treatment of the grout required. It should be available for about $9 for a four oz or so size, enough to do many feet of joint, of course depending on the size. I've even seen it at Home Depot.
