I want to add a screen porch to the back of my house. The house is two story brick veneer. The porch will be supported on concrete piers with posts. The roof will be a shed type roof with 4/12 pitch, extending out from the brick veneer wall. Should I bolt a ledger board into the brick to support the roof. Or should I support the porch roof with posts adjacent to the wall. How should I install the flashing to the roof? Should I cut into a horizontal mortar joint and push the flashing into the joint and seal it?
Another question. The Brick Industry Association says that you should not use aluminum flashing against mortar, even cured mortar, because the aluminum will deteriorate. What would be a suitable flashing? Would lead flashing be appropriate?

Think I'll take a wild stab here that brick veneer is not exactly ... load-bearing. What's the substrate -- wood or concrete block? You'll probably want to bolt a wooden ledger to that substrate.
Galv. flashing OK?

flashings.....copper the only way to go intall a 3x3 angle on the roof and up the wall then put a cap piece over the angle and into the mortar joint a perfect waterproof flashing job......the ledger must go to the load bearing wall or the post idea is a good alternative....good luck
