O.K. you might think I making a joke of this but I need some advice on bedframes-
I get home from work and my wife says our 8 yr old daughter says,”Mom, how come dad makes the bed squeek so much?”
Years ago my son (about 8 at the time) yells, “I can’t sleep, quit jumping on the bed”
Anybody know how to make an old metal frame bed from making so much noise. Thought about taking it out to the garage and welding all the joints.
Or do you just get another style of bed frame??

Get a wood bed frame, with wood slats
or put your mattress on the floor
or weld the old one
or stop doing the squeaky thing.<G>
A good friend of mine has 3 daughters, now all grown. One of them said something about how the trucks every Saturday AM made the dining room light fixture move.
I think she's got it figured out now why the light moves.
On our king sized bed, I made a brace from some plywood and put it under the middle of the bed to stop that very thing. And it worked great.
If you don't think that will work, try doin' your thing near the edge of the bed. Or on the floor.
Did you attach the ply to the frame??
clackety clackety clack...
"Did you attach the ply to the frame??"
I used a piece of plywood for a base - Maybe 16" square. Then I built a rectangle frame out of 2X4s and screwed it to the ply.
I put a diagonal brace inside the rectangle to give it a lot of rigidity. Then I put that assembly under the middle brace of the king sized bed frame. I screwed down through the bed frame into the 2X4 frame.
It's amazing how much more solid the bed is.
BTW - I got the bed - the ex didn't want it.
Why do they call it a TV set when you only get one?
'Cause she's playin' all night,
And the music's alright.
Mama's got a squeeze box,
Daddy never sleeps at night.
Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep.
There's no escape from the music

The kids will be alright,
but you knew that already :)
The kids will be alright,
Yea, think back to our ancestors that were holed up in those little 15' X 15' square mud huts trying to weather the winter, gotta know the kids were privy to a little more then a little bed spring squeak!
Doug
The kids thought Mom was very agreeable, she kept yelling yes, yes, yes.
are you sure it's not the mattress or boxspring?
It takes studs to build a house
HUH, Now that's a problem I would like to have.
Noisy bedsprings indeed.
;-)
Get a waterbed and let the soothing sound of the waves crashing on the headboard lull her off to sleep ;)

I was gonna say to wait ten years and the kids will be gone and quit complainingbutif the bed is still a-squeaking, the kids are still a-coming
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Build a platform box as is found on waterbeds and cap it with 3/4 ply screwed to the platform. The cap will sit a little above the the metal bed rails and away from the foot and head boards.
Set the box springs on the cap and from the underneath the overhang of the cap set screws thru the ply perimeter and into the box spring frame.
This set up will isolate the "oscillatory vibrations" away from the "clackety clack" assembly.
I know it works....had same for 40 years....a satisfied customer always gives good lip service!

I think thats what I'll have to do
Clearly the kids need bigger stereo systems in their bedrooms.

Wood bed, slats to support the mattresses, foam for mattress. No noise, no questions, just lots of satisfaction : )

DH built us a simple platform bed. It's a simple box, topped with sheet material, made out of black melamine. He trimmed the edges with oak to keep it from sliding off. Platform height is 20", so with the mattress the finished height is 32". It is a great height for folding laundry, and makes bed-making easy.
P.S. No boxsprings. Who needs them? What purpose do boxsprings serve, anyway?

Just for the heck of it, I poked my head under the bed and took a picture of the brace.

BTW - There's some interesting history behind this bed. A friend of mine used to be married to John Urea of the St. Louis Cardinals. (I may have his last name spelled wrong)
They bought the bed while they were married, and she kept it after they divorced. She sold it to me back before I was married.
Curley has not been back...do ya suppose his bed is still squeaking?
lol...

Don't know.I do know that MY bed is no longer squeaking. For more than one reason.(-:

I'm thinking its no longer squeaking-
and he's making up for lost time LOL
Had to run to the inlaws.........

Being fair to all my fellow BTers, I'll thoroughly test each method and get back with you!!
Thanks for your feedback!!
Try the couch.
Actually when I worked for a moving company many moons ago, we got a call back from a client that said his bed was squeaking when he was "doing things".
We tightened up a few screws and after he actually got on the bed and "moved around" to make sure we did good.

curley ,
About 30 years ago we lived on a friends property in a single wide , next to her big house .
She told us to use a little 3 in 1 oil on her old bed frame to quiet down the squeaking .
