Last weekend I was watching an episode of TOH and they were on a project down in the Bahamas, I think. The episode was touring the project mid-way through and part of the focus was on the large, walk-in showers. Aside from the monster tile pieces being used on the bottom of the shower (12-16″ wide and about 18-24″ tall), the lead foreman stated they used a ‘hydraulic grout’ on the tilework because a) it sets up rather quickly, and b) its perfect for the climatology (high humidity).
I have never heard of hydraulic grout before. I have heard of hydraulic cement, but didn’t know if this was the same thing. Just thought someone could shed a little light on this and help enlighten my rather dim knowledge of this aspect of tile-work.

This much I can tell you.......I was grouting a floor once when i start thinking, gee, this stuff is settin up awfull fast, I better get moving. By the time I got out the door, it was near disaster as the joints were barely workable at that point.
Grabbed the bag of grout........yep........can't remember what Latticrete called it, but it was like high early concrete; the guy at the supplier gave me the wrong stuff!!
It's hard, and waterproof, or at least VERY w/r, more so than regular grout. I believe a common application would be a swimming pool, or commercial areas subject to constant moisture.
I'm sure someone else can attest to it's chemical properties.

My neighbor-contractor worked all last weekend and is up in Athens today for the Georgia-LSU game. We are both waiting on the coinciding opportunity to repair the water-infiltration problem. Right now I am looking at post-fix items that need to be done, including repaiting the house (posted in separate thread), and new shower.
Wich thread(s) was that????
