hey all,
has anyone ever tried gluing Ipe together. A friend tried to glue several 3/4 inch boards together along the edges to make an outdoor cutting board for a barbecue. He tried with gorilla glue, but the joints popped. (the edges were planed and cleaned with acetone to remove the oil prior ot gluing) Any other ideas on a glue that would work better? Epoxy? or is Ipe ungluable? Has anyone ever tried gluing this stuff before?
Thanks,
brad.

sure. any glue that is rated for outside will fly. The acetone is not needed...a strong surface like a tongue and groove is the best.
The inherent flaw was the material not being acclimated to out doors/or left with one side damp and the other in the sun I guess.
I'd consider a biscuted joint or a milled edge to create more glue suface..I have cutting boards of Ipe that have been dishwashered..used Titebond II and still there after 15 yrs.
