I’ve tested the draft on a few water heaters for which the flue joins the flue from an induced draft furnace with a sheet metal Y.
In each case, the draft for the water heater went to zero when the furnace draft inducer kicked on.
Are there any restrictions on this type of installation?
I haven’t done enough to conclude whether this is inevitable or random chance (although it seems to me the furn. draft induced is presurizing the flue with this as a natural consequence. I had one where, with the draft inducer on and the water heater off, flue gases could be felt spilling from the water heater bonnet!)
Any info &/or ideas welcome.
