Install press. reg. on old Galv pipe?

House built in 1950- originally galvanized steel piping. All interior piping now copper, but still 1″ galvanized from meter to where it enters house. Pressure is 120lbs. (!) I know I’ll eventually need to replace all the galvanized, but do you think it’s advisable or even possible to install a pressure regulator on the old line? Plumbers I’ve talked to don’t want to touch the old galvanized pipe.
I guess I could also just install the regulator in the copper line at a point after it enters the house- this would leave the exterior stuff (mainline and hose bibs) at the high pressure, but so what? Then, when I finally do replace the line, I could move the regulator to just downstream of the meter. If I do this, can I install a 1″ regulator on a 3/4″ line?
Thoughts?
Thanks

is the reason for the prv because you dont like the presure so high? you can install in gal pipe , cut gal pipe with sawzall , splice prv in using pvc slip repair coupling both side of splice with prv in middel . if in ground install a meter box incase you need to clean prv
Yes, afraid of too much pressure for valves and appliances.Do you think a compression coupling is likely to work on a galvanized line that's been buried for 50 years? Thanks
I like your plan B better. Having the regulator inside and working on known good copper pipe are both plusses, and so is having the hose bibs at full pressure. They seem to do fine with it, and you can squirt water farther and harder from the hose.
Old galvy can look fine on the outside, and turn into a massive can of worms the instant you touch it.

If you install one don't forget you need to add an expansion tank if you have a storage type water heater.
But I have not found that 120 psi is particular hard on plumbing fixtures.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
