Installing glass in windows finished with penofin oil

I’ve built a few casement windows and frames for a backyard shed/art studio. They’re made from old vertical grain cherry and I’ve finished them with penofin oil. I planned on holding the glass in place with pin nailed glazing strips also made from cherry. I’d like to keep the frames unpainted to show off the wood. All the windows are underneath a 1’ overhang in Northern California. Very little rain.
What kind of sealant could I use in this situation? I planned on using silicone but I’m slightly worried that I’ve cut off that option by using the penofin. In my test, it didn’t seem to form a real strong bond with the oiled wood. I also tried polyurethane adhesive, but it was so aggressive that I don’t think that you will ever be able to remove the glass without total destruction of the door frame. I might have better luck with the silicone after the oil dries longer.
I wanted to ask some people who know more than I do. Any suggestions?
Thanks
John

Dual or single glazed?
They are single glazed.
Since I’m not painting the wood, and I’m holding the glass in with wood strips (and whatever sealant I use) I assumed that ruled out glazing putty.
Could I use glazing putty underneath these strips?
Since many windows these days simply use gaskets to seal the glass to the sash, I wouldn’t worry to much about adhesion. Caulk the glass in with silicone or some rubberized sealant and rely on a mechanical seal.
If you don’t use glazing putty to bed the glass I would use Lexel. Will take paint and clear finishes. Seals tite like a mother in law and her purse!
Comes clear and a couple colors (maybe….white for sure)
I was trying to remember the name of that stuff.
It is good!
And the added bonus, removable spout. Which you can seal up and not have the whole tube still cure. And if you use a couple tubes, remove the clean one, use the first again, build a stash of tips.
Not cheap but those added bonus’s brings the usable price way down.
Why not go old school and use glazing putty?
