Looking for suggestions on insulating & heating a Colorado basement w/ foundation walls. The concrete walls were covered by the builder with fiberglass under plastic. I call this the crack-hiding system.
I’m DIY finishing the area and have steel stud walls up 24″ oc. Should I add more insulation between the studs? What kind? R-value?
I’d also like to at least put sound proofing insulation up in the ceiling before drywall goes up. Will regular insulation work as well? What is the easiest stuff to work with?
The footprint divides up into three basic living areas: a 700 sf family area, a bedroom and a bathroom. The family area will have a Mendota direct vent fireplace with a fan and thermostat. I’m guessing it will keep this area very comfortable in the winter. Efficiency issues? I’ll tap into the existing gas furnace system for the new bed & bath.
We’ll be in this house a long time and as much as I’d like to hire a pro to do this right, they’re very hard to find these days in Colorado.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
