I have about 25 windows (wood jambs & sash) I’m intending to replace, and am considering the Milgard “Classic Vinyl” line. These are all vinyl, not vinyl clad wood.
How does one install casing on the inside ???? There’s nothing the casing can be nailed to.

And the dullards who install them usually leave them excessively proud and skewed.
One approach is to pre-assemble the casings and nail them only to the studs/header - if the jams are proud, then shim behind the casing where you nail to the studs to keep the casing squared.
*If these windows have no extension jambs, like you make it sound. You will first have to rip your finish lumber of choice,ie....Oak, Pine, etc. to width and install to header, sill and side jambs then case it as usual
*When I find the vinyl jam to be shy, then I usually add the extension jam to the casing before putting it up (we may be visualizing separate scenarios ?) - although vinyl will take pins, they don't hold too well, I can bond the casing to the jams if I have to or seat them with paintable calk.
