?? Is cutting Ridge Board OK ??

Part of my roof is a shed roof that top end overhangs the wall about 12″.
I have removed the fascia and cut out about 4 ft of the ridge board to run some wiring. It was not convenient to make the cut at either end fall on the middle of a rafter.
Now the rafters are all nailed to the wall top plate and on the top the sheathing nailed to the rafters on the top.
AFAIK the only purpose for the ridge board now is to give some backing to the fascia and that there is no need to do anything to splice the ridge board back together structurally.
Is that right?
PS. The framers must have had their nail guns set for kill, not just stun. The nails where at least a 1/4″ below the surface. Though that I was going to have to get an archaeologist to dig them out.

No need to replace the missing piece..
On a shed roof having a "ridge board" and a fascia is redundant in terms of structure.
Either will hold the ends of the rafters straight.

Well I need to put back the section that I cut out because I only took out a about `1/3 of it and the fascia in that area won't have any backing. If I was able to do the whole thing I might just have done that. But I can put that piece back that cut and have 3 or 4 rafters to nail it in..

Yeah, Bill, no problem. It's not completely non-structural--it acts kinda like a rim joist on a floor frame--but the way you describe it, those rafters aren't going anywhere without it.
It is, of course, a good sub-fascia, so you might as well splice it back in with some 1x scabs and a handful o' Piffin screws...
...not! ;-)
