Is it just me, or …

Qian | Posted in Tools for Home Building on February 13, 2007 06:05am

Today, the UPS man delivered my new Thomas T635HD hot dog compressor. Most of what I have read says this is one of the best small units on the market, and priced accordingly. (I have read the thread by another BT OP who has had many problems with his Thomas.) I bought it from Godwin Tool, but it was shipped directly from Thomas to me. Some minor assembly required … feet, carrying handle and air filter. No assembly instructions provided. The feet were a no-brainer. The handle took two tries to figure out the center of gravity. The air filter I had to think about. In reading the Owner’s Manual, it is silent on assembly. Reading it in detail, the English portion (it comes in English, Spanish and French) is filled with errors, typographical as well as substantive. For example, it refers to part numbers on the schematic, when there is no such part number shown. In another instance, it refers to one part number, but it is clearly the wrong part number for the referenced part. Amazingly, the Spanish and French versions at least have the correct part numbers, but my Spanish and French language skills aren’t good enough to see just how accurate they are otherwise. The Owner’s Manual is 4, 8.5×11 pages, front and back. What worries me is that maybe they have paid the same amount of attention to quality control on the unit, as they have to the Owner’s Manual! (Yes, the compressor is made in USA and the Owner’s Manual states it is printed in the USA. I would expect this kind of quality from any number of other countries, but the product would priced accordingly.) What’s going on at Thomas?

I have the same unit and agree that the manual leaves a lot to be desired.

Also, for the price they don't even include a regulator!

ha, Sphere's on edge thinking about tomorrow's doctor appointment so he's just looking to get his yayas out.

How is the operation of the unit?

Shame on me, but I haven't fired it up yet. Only had it for less than 24 hours. Need to spend more money for hoses, fittings, etc. I guess I could just fire it up because I can ... <g> Okay ... I just turned it on and sounds fine mechanically, as quiet as promised. Nice and compact, and lightweight for the promised single gun and home use. And really good price makes it feel a lot better!

        Moon riveeeeerr...

Sorry if I jumped your case...I was and am still leery of doctors. Like why do they insist on using us as guinea pigs?

I have an overactive/underactive thyroid..and like 10 yrs ors o ago..I had a GF with a dog that had the same problem..so the vet prescribed some wonder drug that would eliminate the thyroid all together..well..the dog died two days later.

Hence my behavioral maladjustment to anything other than the status quo...and an abject horror of people with that serpent entwined on thier badge of medical prowness. Gimme a good old fashioned shaman any day.

I got that thyroid thingy also.....hypo-active...my prescrip has remained the same for about 10 yrs. now......last trip to the Docs, he got an "odd" reading. I'm due to go back for a new prescrip. Been puttin' it off myself for a bit.

I aint all too big a fan of them myself.
