We usually put drain tile inside and outside, with the tile at footer level, covered with gravel, 2″ of gravel on top of the footer ( weep block as the first course) and the concrete on top of that. This way, any water that gets through the tar coating and into the block drains to the bottom, out the weep holes and into the gravel and pipe. If there is no sump, then it should drain to daylight(hopefully) The outside and inside pipes are tied at some point. Some guys don’t use the weep block and just bust the holes at the bottom, but I can’t see the cost savings and they look like shit when the homeowner sees them…Brian

Brian, I can see using two drain tiles and your weep holes in the block. But, only one on the inside of the foundation wall is crazy. What helps relive water pressure on the wall if the soil loads up ? Why spend time and money to stop water from entering your wall and poke holes in it?
*Brian,I agree with Bill. Don't skip the drain tile on the outside of the foundation, especially with a block foundation. Install it level or below the top of the footings and cover with stone.I don't understand why you would want to put holes in your foundation wall.Hope this helps,Mike Merisko
*With a drain tile only on the inside face of the wall there is the possibility that surface water will try to pass under the foundation footing twords the drain carrying loose soil and undermining the foundation.

Anyone ever heard of putting the drain tile on the inside of the basement wall? Before you say yes this is a new house with no sump pump. Pipe will set on footer under the slab in gravel and drain to outside.Builder has punched small holes in the wall (block). He's done this for years and because of the good soil the drain tile needs no filter covering. Just a little gravel around the pipe. I have already given my thoughts to the owner on this and wanted some thoughts on this from "smarter" guys then me on this
