JLC-Live Providence

dieselpig | Posted in General Discussion on December 21, 2004 01:29am

Well, believe it or not, it’s that time of year again!  Whoooohoooooo!  Just registered for JLC-Live ’05 over at their website.  Going in Thursday morning (3/17) for the all day intensive titled “Advance Roof Framing, Beyond the Basics” and also registered for an Excel tutorial on Saturday morning.  That leaves Friday for cruising the floor, and of course, some very serious shopping.  Seems like just a couple months ago that I was bumping into Mike Smith and his fellas over at Bosch’s Big Blue.

Anyway, just a reminder to all that if you register now over at JLC’s site you can get into the Expo for free.  You can also make your hotel reservations right there at their site.  Also like to see who plans on going this year.  A good time is sure to be had by all…. and that’s a promise.

Be sure and stop by the "Common Estimating Blunders" clinic I'm doing on the show floor.  I think it's at 10am on Saturday, though I don't have the sheet in front of me.

I hear Smith's buying the drinks on Friday night since he blew me off last year......

I wish you'd stop by the "Common Estimating Blunders" clinic I run over at my office  about once a week!! Bahhaahaahaa.  Seriously, sounds like some good 411 I'll have to check out.

I heard that you were doing that one, Carola.  Did I hear wrong?

      1. Framer | Dec 21, 2004 03:30pm | #15

Not this little Jersey boy. You think that since we're both from Jersey you could pull some strings and get them to have a JLC-Live here. You would be my hero.Joe Carola

Aggghhhh..........Providence is just a short drive, man!  They can't have one in every state....

Actually, I took the train up last year- will probably do the same this year.  It was like $99 round trip, and was faster than driving.  Plus I didn't have to be concerned about the weather (in 2002 it rained the whole drive up and back- blah).   The train station is like a 1/4 mile walk to the convention center.

Lemme know if you wanna go- I'll split a room with ya.

      Here's JLC's description Joe,

Roof Framing: Beyond the BasicsCutting rafters is one of the biggest carpentry challenges on the jobsite. Roof framing instructor Loran Stara will walk you through various framing situations so you'll be better prepared on the jobsite.

Review common, hip, and valley rafters before moving into more complex material.

Lear how to frame: Supporting Valleys, Crickets (saddle roof), Dutch Hips and Gables, Dormers, Unequal Pitch Hips and Valleys.

Learn the math and calculation needed to establish the framing points

Discover how to lay out the special cuts

Understand how to figure the lengths of hip and valley jacks for equal and unequal pitch roofs.

This information-packed, fast moving course will provide you with everything you need to know to understand, calculate and cut a difficult roof. Note: We recommend you bring your own calculator, such as a Construction Master. Speaker: Loran StaraThursday, March 17, 2005 8:00 am - 3:00 pm"

attend always happen in the NW or NE, I don't recall seeing any in the south

    or south east?

You seem to be right.  JLC Live is in RI, California, Oregon, and Illinois this coming year.  Good excuse for a serious road trip (or Rhode-Trip!!).  Hey... it's a write-off.... couldn't ask for a better excuse!

      1. butch | Dec 22, 2004 01:41am | #18

        You seem to be right

        Man, I'm ALWAYS right :-)

That would be one serious rhode trip, but I don't think I'll be able

        to make it.
