joints w/ facia & soffit replacement ?s

I’m starting in on repairing my old wood gutters. (replacing/repair w/ wood)
There is some involvement of the facia & soffit w/ rot…
Two (long) ?s on construction technique regarding the repair/replace:
a) Is there a benefit to doing butt vs miter on the facia & soffit ?
~Is it mainly appearance or managing end grain exposure that drives miter use ?
~I though miters open easier than butt joints in wide boards ?
~Seems like if you miter one the other will need it as well
~Pre-assemble or build in place ?
b) how do people join their miters on these jobs ? nails ? biscuit ? gorilla glue ? combination ?
Doing some reading @ night… . But, wanted to ask here as well.
Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, but this will serve as a bump to get you back to the top of the list.
Back in the last century we use to cut 22 1/2 degree miters on gutter and facia boards, then just nail them in place with galv. nails. Mostly we had very few problems with joints opening or splitting because we used D-fir. Later, with cost cutting in mind, many switched to #2 pine. There were problems with it from loose knots to shrinkage, so everyone started wrapping them with alum. just to hide the crappy lumber we were getting.
