I know a place where you can see live Douglas Fir like that. A place called Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island. About halfway between Tofino and Nanaimo if my memory serves me right. The logging company said they left the stand for future generations, some people say they left them because they were just too damn big and too much trouble.

It's more likely that that timber will be used to build a couple of temples in Japan instead of a couple of houses in North America.
There was a windstorm, years ago, that knocked a couple of them down. You can't see the end of them, they just disappear into the forest.
