bicycle or motorcycle?
business related (hahaha)?
if you used it regularly for potential client interviews, why not?
but dont push your luck!!!
friend of mine is an auditor for our federal government (canada) and they have a long list of keywords that can signal an audit
among those are "boat', "motorcycle","other property" and many many others
caulking is not a piece of trim
was just talking to my accountant about this ...
said I wanted to get an older Harley ... a re-do kinda thing ...
and since I really like my new Logo/paint scheme ...
instead of getting "Harley" repainted on the tanks ...
I'd get the Buck Const logo .... maybe a hammer and saw detail on the tank/fenders
He said if I got a good photo of the bike on a job site ... showing it next to my job site sign and van .. all with the same logo ...
I could deduct a "portion" for advertising.
Said he'd have to look deeper to see how much.
Ask your guy.

Jeff,
I've got a guy designing a new tattoo for me. It's sort of a mean looking skull and crossbones with flames behind it. Instead of cross bones it will have hammers. Possibly one hammer and one hand saw. He's sketching up a few different ideas. If you'd like I'll email you a copy of the designs when he's finished. Maybe you could work something similar onto your tank?
Hell yes!

What'd we get??

I own a BMW R1150 GS Adventure. I find it absolutely essential in finding new work.
i have often wondered if i could write off my bikes, i ride them to customer meetings, ( they love them ) and they have even led to some jobs.
james
ps that is the wife not me.
Royal Enfield? And a Velocette!!!???
Oh lord, do I miss my old Norton Commando.
They are probably still finding parts shaken off from England to Greece.Quality repairs for your home.
Aaron the HandymanVancouver, Canada
yea, being ridgid frames they have a tendency to loose anything not safty wired or lock tited on
james
the problem with old bikes ( british are the worst ) is that it becomes a sickeness, they are like abused puppies. if you see one you feel that you need to take it home, nurse it back to health and play with it.
james
...and electrical problems...don't forget to mention how bad the electrical systems are on those old British bikes. I swear. I spent more time fiddling with wiring than riding either of mine.
repeat after me, WE LOVE LUCAS, LUCAS WE LOVE YOU..., that should hold off the end for a while. on a lighter note the velocette is all miller and i have had zero electrical problems with her, now that i think of it most of the lucas stuff i have had was not so bad, the bikes i collect are pre 1950's, so they are absent a lot of the problems that coil/ alternator bikes had, all of the ones i ride are magneto drive with a dynamo. in other words i could take the charging system and battery and throw them in the bay and still motor along happily.
james
here is yet another one i rescued
sweet.
Anyone dabble in older Ducatis?? Some of the early ones look sweet, but I am not familiar with old bikes the way I am old cars, new bikes, and so on. Thoughts?Jake Gulick

re old Ducatis,
if the bike is from the 50's - early 70's you could probably just get by with a manual, especially if you are mechanically inclined.
james
I just did a total restoration on the 1974 Laverda I bought brand new when I was 18, does that count?
If I could figgure how to get rid of 2 previous posted pics I would let you all see it.

Q: Why dont the British build television sets?
A: They cant figure out how to make them leak oil.
buy a harley
thats real clever. how do you know when a brit bike is out of oil.... when there is no puddle under it. ta da ding....
you can have your dentist driving , i have more money than taste, cookie cutter, i am going to relive my mis spent youth and impress my neighbors stead.
i just like the old british peices of sh it because i am too cheap to spend 20,000 on an american peice of history ( that now are mostly made elsewhere.) and as far as modern british bikes ( triumph ) they do not leak.
james
Why do Englishmen like warm beer?
Lucas refridgerators! Ha
Q: Why is american beer like making love in a canoe?
A: Because it is effing close to water
amen..... just fiishing a newcastle and loving it..... may be why i am so fiesty ( sp)
james
They do not leak because there is never any activity in the oil pump. You cant get em started.

when I am done with one of my own it will start on the first or second serious kick, now you know you have to give it one or two priming pushes to condition the combustion chamber..... you do know that.....how else would the fuel get into the combustion chamber(s)... maybe that is your problem, or is it that you are such a sissy that you can not spin the motor around past the compression point to the point that the spark is flung to get it started ( to give you a hint it is about 30 - 36 degrees btdc.
james
who are you calling a sissy? I ride with women who have much bigger bikes than yours!
just making an assumption, you said that they could never be started... i gave some senerios as to why you or your friends may have had problems.... many people do not know how to kick start a bike ( or know how to set any of the handlebar levers).
on to who is so much more manly for riding biger bikes.... could the wemmins you ride with kick start their harley or whatever bigger bike they ride? if it fell over could they pick it up? what would be the compression ratio ( my velo is around 10-1, not way up there but without the decomp lever it would be a real pita to start), and dose a harley even come with a kick start anymore?
abot my wimpy little bikes.... i like to ride the back country and a light nimble bike is what it is all about. i have seen the big v twin boys at the redwood ride here in no cal and i hate getting stuck behind them in the back woods, they are slower than my grandma and it is hard to pass them with their trailers a swinging and luggage etc.. pluss i am scared to death of catching a peice of tassell in the face as i go by.
no hard feelings, i guess the sissy comment was out of line, i must be one because i do not fallow the pack.
maybe we should move this over to the tav so i can buy a round for all of my fellow motorcycle riders, who never seem to agree on what you should ride.... only that you should ride.
james
I hear ya. I dont want to go fast anymore. I just want to float down the road on a heavy piece of Iron. something I can spend the day on without getting a sore azz. If you need to speed past me be my guest, just don't tailgate me.
You know whats weird about bikes and bike riders?? The polarity of them! I can see myself owning a cool classic for around town & breakfast runs, a Ducati for the around the resovior runs, and an old Harley for interstate runs. Choose your bike according to the map needed!
But I own the first year Ninja. A good all arounder. ( I can dream about the others!) And i wave to all on two wheels. Guess what....the guys on sportbikes wave back. The guys on tourers wave back. The guys on classics wave back. But the guys on Harleys? Hardly ever.
Why is that?? It's not like I'm a leper! We're all riders, right?? It's always made me wonder.....Jake Gulick

i used to ride sport bike, i just got tired of flying over peoples hoods. I needed to find something with less power that gave the same feeling, when you are " flying down " the street with no windscreen and no clocks ( gauges) it feels like you are doing 100.
to be honest i am looking for a bigger bike for long runs. like a 20's or 30's indian. i have done the long runs on the b. bikes and they take alot out of you.
about waving... i wave at everyone and for the most part they wave back, if they do not i think it is because they are uncomfortable taking their hand off the grips ( newbie )
james
Yeah, I see that a lot too. I dont think your not getting waved to because your on a non-HD. I ride a harley and I wave. A lot of times guys on dyna's or softails think they're cooler than everyone else so they dont wave, even to other harleys. Know what? I dont want those guys wavin to me.
i never tailgate but you may see me back there warming my tires up, zig gagging, trying to get your attention and have you move over a little.
and about the sore azz, most of the stuff i ride has no suspension or very little so i can sympathize about the sore azz as well as the knife between the shoulders.
stay dry and keep the shiny side up.
james
Wrong type of Norton. Mine was 20 years after the invention of the Featherbed frame, full telescoping forks and shocks. It just vibrated a lot.Quality repairs for your home.
Aaron the HandymanVancouver, Canada
Aaron,
you must have had the norton where everything was rubber mounted to help fix that problem. i guess that is why all of rockers put triumph engines in their featherbead frames, no vibes....
i do not know mutch about bikes of that era.. maybe i should start combing the sites and classifieds..... my wife is going to kill you.
james
I would have liked to get a Harley but what I ended up getting is a Yamaha V Star Classic, With all the bells and Whistles. Great deal on it too.Men do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing! Holmes Sr. Oliver Wendell
Mine is a '96 Honda ST1100 sport tourer, with 36,000 miles on the odo.
you could write off you a##! Ha Ha.
Mike
Well, I've written off 3 canoes so far. (Not your everyday family variety - about 2k each)
Our reason for the canoe purchases? We did a couple "water access only" jobs in the Adirondacks. Had to have them to get back and forth to the job. Barge? What barge?
It's been my experience that you can write off just about anything. We had a client that spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on racing (His cars, engines, RV etc.) and he just paid his attorneys about 30k to fight the IRS.
Well, he won the fight (if spending 30k on lawyers can be called winning). His explanation was that the racing and all supporting items were advertising for his tool business.
