Here’s one for all of you! I grew up on a farm in souther Michigan, there are a couple of old post and beam barns still in pretty good shape, that being said they still need help. I am a die hard I couldn’t build a shop the size of these beauties for the price it would cost to fix them. Yet coming up with the money to fix them could be tight.
1. I need suggestions for $ $$$$ grants ,historical leads ect.
2. I have had offers from people to help just to see the old barns stand. Yet they’re not trades people and some of the work should only be done by someone who knows what to do and how to do it. any way I could tap the trades to do this,
I have a crew of 8 men and telescopic lift ect yet I just don’t see how to get it done and not go in to the hole, I’m not even sure what I would do with them after there done.Other than stand back and know my father, his father, and his father would be as proud as I would be that another majestic peice of history was saved from a dishonorable fate. I’m all ears.

You might try contacting the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office. I know New York has money for barn preservation, but I don't know about Michigan. Maybe the New York SHPO might know if otyher states have similar programs.

You might try contacting the Timber Framers Guild. I don't have info on them on hand, but they are always interested in these kind of projects either with advise or volunteer help.
