I recently helped a buddy, who is doing a 3,800 sf custom, doing his measuring, layout, design, and ordering for all the cabinetry. I researched and got pricing from most of the well-known makers of KD cab boxes, drawer boxes, doors and drawer fronts, and we ordered complete packages that included hardware and all fronts and trim prefinished. We did a quite large kitchen, with peninsula and 4×7 island, a wet bar, 4 full baths, and a well-appointed laundry room. Everything went together quick, no mistakes, no hassles. It is all installed, and the pattern templates for the granite tops are all at the fabricators. In building four or five times previously, starting with a major remodel, my buddy had rejected, from the start, going the route of getting cabinetry from the kitchen and bath houses locally, saving money (allegedly) by hiring a guy that specializes in site built stuff, buying sheet stock (always birch or maple veneer ply), hardwood for face frames and door front stock, and having stuff all site-built. By going this new route, we figure he is saving even quite a bit more. Can anyone offer some comparisons, if you have gone the KD route? The suppliers I researched are Scherr’s, CabParts, Keystone, Conestoga, and Components Plus.
