Keystone Custom Homes – Update to my nightmare with them
So as some of you may read in my past thread Keystone Custom Homes out of Lancaster, PA is building a home for my Wife and I. We came to find out during the building process that they dont flash their windows but instead use a process they claim to have developed wrapping the building wrap into the frame and silicone it in place. I took a video of this during a rainstorm and uploaded it to youtube which can be viewed below.
I filed a complaint with the building inspector and township. They came to the conclusion that they were going to just let the builder tape all of the seams of the building wrap and apply flashing tape to the outside flanges of the windows. So no sill flashing is required. I kind of backed off until tonight when I showed up to view the progress on my home and noticed it looked like a freaking clown show. Instead of the builder ordering all of the same flashing tape, they used 4 different brands and stapled a bunch of it in place because it wouldnt stick. Then in one spot they applied flashing tape over a building wrap seam because they must of ran out of the Tyvek tape.
I am completely baffled and cant believe how shitty of a builder this is. If anyone knows someone considering purchasing a home from them stay far away.

Have you read Keystone Custom Homes reviews before considering this company? As I can see from the reviews you are not alone with your problems.
Where are you located? They still need to break-ground on ours. I also don't know why they use DRY-line housewrap? Just because of the branding? It's cheap and not like Tyvek. Will keep an eye on it. Will follow every step and evaluate it with Project Manager. Between you and me all Builders (except from maybe a view out there) are cutting corners and use cheap builder grade materials. Main goal is to build fast (unrealistic timeframe) so they can obtain an OC to go to Settlement. Leaves the new homeowner with a huge punch list and many months of troubles.
Thanks for sharing, i hope everything has settled in the meanwhile (your post is from 1 year ago)
