Anyone own or install one of these? They are a fairly low-priced cast iron tub, very competitive with the acrylic models. Client would like to use one, I want to make sure it is a well-made, well-finished item.

Is this a "close out", IIRC the K839 is a 5 & 1/2 foot drop in tub in the 1000 dollar range.
I have never had a problem with any Kohler cast iron tub.
About 4 year ago we installed one. Low side comparativly, good finish but thin cast iron. Not so thin you are afraid to stand in it but just thinner than the better tubs. Good finish though. We warned the client is was low (I can't remember the measurement but I think 14") and once installed they mentioned it. But for the money ($480 at that time) it wasn't bad. DanT
Doesn't appear to be a closeout. It's an 18-1/2" deck height which seems fine to me, not low. Thin casting makes sense... less material, cheaper to ship. I would much rather see a cast iron tub than a plastic one, both from a completed-project point of view and in terms of working around it after we install it.
It's not a low tub like a villager that is 14", & at 350 pounds seems on par since most 5' tubs are 300 to 320 so an extra 6" of tub I could see picking up that extra 30 to 50 pounds.

I have one just put in the master bath - very good tub. Ours is undermounted with a granite top.
