I’m a homeowner, not a builder.
I need help with a Kohler toilet.
When I flush it, I have to hold the handle down for a few seconds so that bowl fills back up to a normal level. If I normally release the handle after flushing, the water in the bowl is somewhat low.
I have taken all the slack out of the chain, verified that the water level is at the fill line, cleaned the rim holes, and used a plunger to clear any potential obstructions. No improvement. A plumber replaced the fill valve with a Fluidmaster part a few months ago, not sure if that means anything.
I have two other Kohler toilets of the same model in our home that work fine.
I wonder if these toilets need OEM parts to work right (like some cars)?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

looking quick, it looks like th fluidmaster isn't adjusted properly - you should be able to raise the mechanism under the red cap to get more water into the tank before it shuts off the flow - hopefully you have a working shutoff at the toilet - shut off the water supply before trying to adjust the mechanism - check on line for adjusting a fluidmaster and you hopefully will be set
plan B is call the plumber back and have him fix the problem ( at no charge)
good luck
Thanks
reading this again, I just realized your concern is about the "water spot" in the bowl, not the tank level
that is controlled (to some extent) by water running into the bowl thru the black tubing off the valve - some of fluidmaster control valves are designed to limit the water into the bowl as a way to save water
if the toilet is flushing properly, the size of the water spot really doesn't matter - if it's not flushing properly, then usually more a volume issue from the tank to the bowl to "out"
you could reach out to your local Kohler supply house and check with the rep about what that toilet requires for a fill valve, also reach out to fluidmaster and ask
good luck
The Kohler branded Fluidmaster valve uses a flow restrictor where the refill tube (the black hose) is attached to the fill valve body.
The only way to adjust the water level in the bowl is to change the restrictor. Your plumber should have checked the bowl level before leaving.
That fill valve apears to be this model: https://www.us.kohler.com/us//productDetail/toilet-valves/637925.htm?skuId=613370&_requestid=1228996
The service instructions link is on the bottom of the page.
Thank you for the help. I ordered a replacement fill valve from Kohler. Hopefully that will do the trick.....
