kreg jig… on this boards advice

ponytl | Posted in Tools for Home Building on November 2, 2008 07:15am

I got one… along with several boxes of screws… i got the simple pocket one…

i only got it because of what i read here and in FHB… i even paid retail for it… didn’t get it off ebay or amazon or nothing… got it at lowes full price 🙂 are your reading this junkhound…?

anyway i had to make some face frames fillers for some kitchen cabinets today… make a 30″ cabinet fill a 34 3/4″ space above a refrig…  i could have done it without the pocket screws… but it sure looks “professional” with em… not that anyone buy me will ever know they are there… but

i liked it… great little tool and well worth the $20

I've had one of the entry level jigs like I think you are talking about for the better part of the last decade, and it's served me well...  but, I just recently bought the kreg master jig kit that you mount to the bench top and has the built in clamping system for about $130.  It's the bomb!  If your going to be using pocket screws more than once a year, I highly recommend the upgrade.

I second that. For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

what! rez is going to kick you out of the club, paying full retail! 20.00 bucks!i'm sure somewhere you could of found a used one for 5.00 less..........

shake your pockets and see if 130.00 falls out.you haven't use a kreg until you get the kit that  has the clamp and jig. i used the one you have for about a year and when i bought the kit i was amazed at how good it is.you won't ever look back and think it's wasted money.larry

I've got the old metal one, as well as the newer plastic one, and my buddy at work has the new plastic one. He makes fun of me when I invariably chose my old clunker over my shiny new plastic one, but I like it. No set-up involved. Clamp is already on it. Stick the board in and go...Steve

I prefer the old metal one too.  Use my buddy's plastic one sometimes, the adjustable holes are handy, but the metal one is just so classic....

Hey here is a tip, you could have probably figured it out, but if you need to pocket hole in an awkward position, especially a vertical surface, and can't get keep the jig aligned and clamp it too.

Scotch double stick tape. I use it for alot in my shop. Stick the tape to the jig stick the jig where you want it, then clamp.

I use the stuff on the yellow card permanent strength.

I also use it on my tapering jig and a few other places.Webby

I have had one for years. I got one when they first came out at a trade show. I have made a chit load of cabinets with it and have liked it a lot. Mine is all metal and I have went through a bunch of drill bits for it. If I were to go in business today I would get one for sure. Maybe an automatic one.
