I'd call and ask for brand names on the size you want. If that pans out I'd ask for a discount on multiple ladders, or make a deal to split the cost of gas for driving that far. Then I'd ask him to tag the two best ladders iin the size you want as sold.
David,
The prices look low enough to be interesting, but there are no brand names mentioned. Just because an FG ladder is green doesn't mean it's a Davidson; it could be some el-cheap-o knock-off you wouldn't wanna trust your life to. Also, it can be rated for whatever weight class but still come equipped with riveted-in-place, cruddy, no-spring hooks that'll drive you nuts every time you have to raise or lower it.
I'd e-mail the guy for a phone number first and call him up to get more details before driving that far.

Find out the load rating of the ladders. I only buy type 1 or 1A, 250 or 300 lbs ( I think). It'll be on a label on one of the ladder rails.
IMO, the lighter capacity ladders ( type II or III) aren't good for much, especially if you're going to use them on a regular basis.
well, a friend and I went on an adventure yesterday, and said adventure included a stop at the above mentioned Craigslist merchant - located in the middle of a little town in the middle of nowhere (Wyatt, IN), headquartered in an extinct lumber yard complex that used to set next to the now disappeared railroad - - there were 500 ladders there, at least - I've never seen such a stash - tried to get the story out of the guy, some connection to Chicago and a relative - maybe I don't want to know anymore - anyway, they were all Werner ladders, all fiberglass, all new, in all configurations - there were step ladders there that had to be 20' tall - man, those gotta be shaky when near the top, 300 pound rating or no - anyway - 32' extension ladder $199 cash (no tax tues special) - ('1A' rating - 300 pound)we were in the T&C, so I couldn't haul any back, but I will be headed back that way soon and get a pair of those ladders - here's what they were - http://www.wernerladder.com/catalog/details.php?series_id=139"there's enough for everyone"
