It appears the lead paint issue will reach tobacco proportions in terms of lawsuits and may get out of control.
Our local paper has been running a series on lead poisoning in children.
Which leads me to this question.
When faced with kitchen and bath walls that need repainting, what is the general approach these days ?
Original slick/smooth finish from the 1950s in that awful light green.
Except for the outdated color that needs to be changed, no flaking, peeling, etc except where the plaster has cracked over the years.
I am definitely repainting but want to take advantage of the opportunity of removal if that is necessary.
(It will need to be rough sanded first if I repaint.
Just posted a Q in the Tools section about the Fein sander/vac.)
I would appreciate some feedback.

You might want to read the article about lead paint in THIS MONTH'S Fine Homebuilding Magazine.........

Thanks - I failed to mention I already read the article.
I'll re-read to see if it addresses my question.

Ahneedhelp--
As you have read the article, you know that dust will be the issue if you choose to resand. In addition to all other precautions, would strongly suggest washing all surfaces with TSP twice, with vacuuming in between. I actually set the shop vac outside (rural area) so the air is not recirculated.

Rework
Thanks for the TSP suggestion.
I guess it's gonna have to take a lot of elbow grease no matter which route I take.

I'd suggest you order "Lead Paint Safety," the field guide that was listed on pg 73 as a source for more information (800-424-5323). It has a lot more about repainting than I was able to include in the article.

Thank-you, Tom.
I did enjoy the article and it was very timely for my situation.
My questions are not in any way meant to downplay the thoroughness of the article.
I do find myself re-reading many issues and articles, over and over and over....Too many old copies of FH scattered in groups around the house.
