I have pella windows in a home I'm building and have found that some are leaking through the rough opening especially during a driving rain. I have installed the windows per man. instructions, i.e. silicone caulking the separate corner flanges before installing
and laying down a continuous bead of silicone caulking
on the backside of the perimeter flange. The exterior
is covered with cedar bevel siding which butts to the
aluminum clading of the window. Pella strongly recommends caulking the entire outside perimeter which
we have done. Some caulking has pulled away from the
window but is it a gross assumption to think that the
outside caulking is not ultimately what keeps water
from entering thru a window opening? Help, its time
to drywall!
