I have a customer that wants their basement turned into a living area,but it leaks on occasion and consequently has “that basement smell”.My plan at the moment is to dig down the full eight feet to the footer, install a french drain , and waterproof the concrete wall . Is There any other way? Any ideas will be appreciated.

Gary-- make sure the ground outside is pitched away from the house and all leaders( or downspouts ) carry the water away from the house.I know this is the obvious stuff, but it is still sometimes overlooked.
I will install gutters and direct the downspouts properly.Unfortunately it is flat lot with lawn and flowers already in place. Thanks for the help.
