Lebanon, NJ Lumber Yards

tashler | Posted in General Discussion on September 2, 2008 05:53am

I have some work to do at my brother’s house. I know Enduringcharm and rlrefalo live in the area and DonCanDo is familiar with it.

Can anyone tell me a good lumber yard in the area. I think my brother mention a Jaeger Lumber in the area, but it looks like they are at least 20 miles away.

Oh, and is there a tool rental place in the area? Couldn’t find one online.

I hate to ask this one, but where is the closest HD.

He is just off exit 20 on 78.

Thanks

Glenn

Google maps will also find business.

But in the address and find the location.

Then under Search Options select Business

Then after the address add the type of business.

I did lumber yards and got this, which shows
a number of HD's and hardware stores.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=+Lebanon,+NJ+lumber+yards&mrt=yp&ie=UTF8&z=9

And changed it to just Lumber and got these lumber yards.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lebanon,+NJ+lumber&mrt=yp&ie=UTF8&z=10

Looks like a bunch of them and closer than HD.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lebanon,+NJ+lumber&mrt=yp&ie=UTF8&z=10

But you need to check then out. Some of them might be specialty suppliers such as only millwork or wholesale suppliers.

    .
    .
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

There is an HD at Exit 4 which is Phillipsburg, NJ.

Huston Lumber should be on Lamington Rd in Oldwick.  Exit 24 off of 78 I think.

Fox Lumber is in Clinton off of exit 16.

Warren lumber is also in Washington and Phillipsburg.

My pick would be Huston lumber.  I always dealt with Ken Wiser and have always been happy.

      I'll check them out.Thank you.Glenn

Only thing I would add is:

I take Huston head and shoulders customer service wise.

Warren has it's own door shop and if you need any interior doors, theirs are the best around.

I haven't talked to him in a while either. I'm sure he's hanging in there.Joe Carola

"Joe. The guy who talks with his hands? Get out!"Hey, the addition was put on hold to due someone's emotional instability. But now I was told to go ahead so I will keep you informed of the timing.Glenn

Ask Joe about the time I called him and the things I was saying to him while Christine Todd Whitman was standing in front of him.......he was so embarrassed that he had to hang up on me.

        You know our good buddyweiser?

I still have an account at Huston although I haven't used it since I closed up shop.

he actually used to live a few blocks away from me when I lived in Emmaus.

I'm a big Huston fan because I've never been let down by them. When I was home on leave in July my dad was telling me that Lonnie had moved to the engineered lumber division in Allentown and that someone else was running the store.

        1. rlrefalo | Sep 03, 2008 04:24pm | #35

Yeah, that's the deal, Lonnie was saying (as we all know) sales are way off. Makes it tough on commission.

I think Nick, the CFO, is in charge of Oldwick now.

I know Steve Colson, the owner, is in Watchung most of the time.

I've known the Colson family since they bought Huston's almost 30 years ago. Steve's dad and mine were friends.

    Neice Lumber in Lambertville

They're a bit pricey at times, but they're the best thing going in these parts.

    1. tashler | Sep 03, 2008 01:11am | #9

But it says right on their website "Fair Prices".You must be thinking of some other yard.Glenn

    2. robert | Sep 03, 2008 01:48am | #12

Neice is the yard in Lambertville that's all indoors right?

Haven't been there in probably 15 years but it was good stuff at the time.

Down that way I use Opdykes but I've heard they might be in trouble. I installed some stair rails for them and had a pretty decent working relationship.

Because I used to do a lot of interior trim, I ended up using a lot of Warren products. Not a big fan, but their doors were always the best.

Everyone else gets doors from either DELMARVA or REEB. Both suck in my opinion.

I agree with Huston Lumber (pronounced like the the city of Houston) as a good choice.  I haven't been to the one in Oldwick, but I've been very happy with the one in Watchung.

While we're on the subject of lumber, here's a silly question... do any lumber yards accept scrap lumber?  You know, for recycling.  I remember when gas stations used to accept used oil for free because they got paid for it.  Now, I think they have to pay to have it taken away.

    1. tashler | Sep 03, 2008 01:32am | #11

I've never heard of any doing that. But I haven't asked, either. That's a good reason I don't change my own oil anymore. For what it costs to have it done, it isn't worth doing the work to pay to get rid of the oil.Glenn

    2. Shep | Sep 03, 2008 01:53am | #13

Huston's Watchung keeps a large dumpster in the yard to get rid of their scrap, but customers aren't allowed to use it. Although I have seen a few contractors slip junk into it.

I think with the cost of disposal, it wouldn't be very economical for them to allow dumping.

There used to be a place in Middlesex that would take scrap lumber, chip it up, and sell it. But they had a fire, and it turns out they didn't have the proper operating permits anyway.

      Don,

Tell Patty that I still love her and she better call me on my birthday.

       Joe Carola

      1. Shep | Sep 03, 2008 04:16am | #18

I'll see Patty tomorrow and tell her.

Or would you rather have Michelle call you?

        1. Framer | Sep 03, 2008 04:56am | #20

Tell them both to call me and make me feel that much more important............;-)

            Hey Joe-

Patty sez that if yer gonna two-time on her with Michelle, she's not gonna call you at all for your birthday.

        2. DonCanDo | Sep 03, 2008 06:37am | #22

Now you guys are making me feel bad.  While you're on a first-name basis with the folks at the lumber yards, I just know the names of the guys at the paint store.

I spent the last 2 days putting up beadboard and trim, but I just don't get to do enough woodwork.  I do a lot more painting.

          1. tashler | Sep 03, 2008 02:37pm | #27

It gets worse, Don.They are on a first name basis with the WOMEN at the lumber yard, while you know the names of the MEN at the paint store.Just wanted to brighten your day.Glenn

          2. Shep | Sep 03, 2008 02:41pm | #28

            Just goes to show-

Joe & I aren't as dumb as we look. LOL

BTW, my wife's been talking to that church in Wanaque. Its looking more and more like we'll end up there. But we'll know for sure in a few weeks.

Yeah, out of mine too. I'm in a 1860 farmhouse, I love it but there are some big places around here.

  6. rlrefalo | Sep 03, 2008 07:32am | #24

HD is their bridgewater west store on Rt. 202. Closest cross street is milltown rd.

There is a rental place in Califon, which is pretty close by, right next to Califon Lumber
