Hey Guys,
What is the proper way to hang a ledger board on a brick veneer wall? Areas of the house have brick over block and brick over studs. Are lags and shields acceptable?
Thanks for replies.

Skim-coating with joint compound covers texture, renews old drywall and plaster, and leaves smooth surfaces ready to paint.

Depends a lot on what you're carrying. The number of fasteners required will vary depending on their size, the species and size of the ledger, and the load it's carrying.
And, of course, your local codes.
Back off. I'm a postal worker.
Thanks for replying Boss Hog,
I would like to add a couple of deck sections maybe 7x10' at most to the side of my house. the house is split level and is brick over block in the front and brick over studs in the rear walkout portion. The decks would be no more than 20 inches from grade.
Also another deck for walkout basement which isn't finished. the basement has a sliding unit and on the upper floor there is a french door unit located above it. there is a deck existing to serve the french door unit and I would like to add the same size deck for the lower sliding unit using the same posts and footings that the upper deck was built with.
Framing would be 2x8 ledger and p.t. joists for all deck sections as well as appropriate flashing. I was thinking about half-inch lags and shields?
Any advice on fasteners for ledger would be appreciated as well as for adding to the existing deck.
