I have a customer who wants a retro countertop in linoleum with the metal edging. What about availability and do I want a floor guy to install it? Also what about typical inch and a half buildup.Do I hang substrate out a little bit to accept metal band or just use one layer of base?

Man, if you can find the real stainless edging, please let me know.....I've been looking for it for years
And, BTW, I don't think the tops were ever linoleum....all the old stainless edged tops I have seen were HPL (highpressurelaminate..)
& what you mean retro, anyhoo.....shoot, I'm cooking on one now ;-)
try outwater plastics... last time i looked they have the beaded stainless edging... they sell alot to manufacturers and to the guys who make retail displays... lots of cool stuff in their book..... and yeah alot of old counter tops and kitchen tables were linoleum....
p
Thanks, but...
Checked them last time I was looking...
Don't want beaded...
Just want the plain, stainless edging-1 1/2 face, 3/4 for the backsplash, AND the chrome cove that joins the splash to the top
Cain't find it, dang it

The HPL was the white with glitter in it stuff, wasn't it?
There were actually linoleum counters too. I've seen maybe 2 of them and both matched the lino on the floor (must have been durable stuff to last all these decades).

Tom, I did one last year with Marmoleum--it wasn't that bad. I made up a sub-top, cut the Marmoleum a little oversized, installed with the supplied adhesive, and trimmed the edges with a utility knife. I don't remember where the edging came from, but I think it was SS or maybe it was aluminum.
If you've ever done plastic laminate counters you can do these, just a bit of extra work.
