We’ve got a small condo in Vermont at a ski area which we use but also rent out. My dear wife would like me to make the bedroom closet into a half closet for the renters and a lockable half closet so we can leave out stuff there in a somewhat secure area. The closet now has sliding bypass doors on it.
She says just build a wall in the middle of the closet and lock one of the sliding doors to the jam. Sounds easy, but I don’t want to use a padlock and some clunky looking hasp. If they made a keyed pocket door latch, it would work and look somewhat better. I know this will not be really secure and that’s o.k. It’s just to store our own linens, clothes, and ski stuff.
Anyone think of anything that would work.

Placing a wall between the two would not turn sliding bypass doors into pocket doors

I didn't describe it well enough. The small wall would run perpendicular to the plane of the sliding bypass doors to the back wall of the closet.
I know the doors wouldn't be pocket doors by any stretch of the imagination but if one had lockable pocket door latch mortised into one side, it could be locked to the jam yielding one half of the closet for normal function and the other able to be locked.
I got what you were talking about, but a bypass door can still be pried out of its tracks easily unlike a pocket door. Not that someone might steal something they just might get nosey and mess things up on you, trying to get a peek.Might considered doing the wall and if floor space is available just put in two hinged pre hung doors put an keyed entry door set on one side with fixed pin hinges.Wallyo
still won't create a secure space that way. Get a locking steel cabinet a Staples or Office Depot that will fit in there
