I have a log home in the Colorado mounains. Time and UV have made refinishing necessary esp. on the south facing walls with some fading and greying visible. I used Shashco finish when new and still have enough on hand to refinish. The question is this: I have seen “abrasive blasting” with corn cob grit as a recommended way to remove the old finish. One contractor wanted to redo the entire house using this and suggested 3-4 weeks with a crew of 4! While I am sure that this will remove the finish, will other chemical treatments such as Shashco’s CPR with light power washing work? I would propose this cleaning for the south walls and weathered areas with refinishing to blend into the existing finish. Thoughts anyone?
