Do any of you know of some good reference books on log homes? We are having a log home built for us and intend to do the interior work ourselves; i.e., all trim work, flooring, hang cabinets, finish walls, install bathroom fixtures, etc. There must be a number of books out there that tell the best ways for doing all of this. When we bought the log package, a book was sent to us telling about the construction of the log home. Since we are having this done, we really need a book about how to FINISH the interior. We would ask our builder, BUT communications with him have slowly deteriorated and we are trying to get through this process the best way we can without any further friction. We don’t want to end up with several dozen books and video tapes and all not filling the bill. We did all the interior work on our present home (a stick built), but finishing out a log home is very different.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I have already checked out bookstores, but they have to be ordered. And in ordering a book without seeing it or having it recommended by someone, you can’t be sure if it’s the book that will help you out.
Thanks for your time in reading this and replying if you have any info. NancyLee

Thanks Duane . . . I'll "log" on to the website you gave me and try there as well. You have a REAL log home! Good for you. NancyLee

They did a series on a log home a couple of years ago. Lot so details about what they did to allow for the shrinking of the logs when doing all of the trim and interior.
Look as see if they sell the tape or have a book on that show.
Thanks Bill. I will try to see if tape or book available. I'm getting lots of feedback and I sure appreciate it. NancyLee
Is this a milled and profiled kit, or pre-assembled scribe-fit handpeeled?
I've built both and finishing out is somewhat different from one to the other.
Our home is being built from a log package kit. Logs are notched and ready to stack. They are rounded on the outside and flat on the inside; called a D-shaped log. So, our inside walls are all flat surface. They are made from white pine out of Tennessee. Does this answer your question? NancyLee
is it a Jim Barna home package by any chance?
I did some work for him, for Alice Walton ( of walmart walton fame)..I know his homes inside and out.

That style doesn't shrink too much unless it is green when stacked.

That Particular outfit, air dries the logs for quite some time, and also, some are hand hewn..they stay in the hewing shed for weeks at at atime..
WP is relatively stable too..that helps.
Those Cypress log kits from FLA. geeze, are soaking wet when they arrive on site.
