How long is your run?
I am planning a duct run right now, and the install how-to from the maker rates the hood as capable of 100 lf of straight run, but you should see how elbows and such are rated. For example, a 90 equates to 15 feet, a 45 is 9 feet, etc.
If I'm lucky, I might be able to swing 30' with (4) 90's
Not sure I understand. Do you mean a total run of 30 lineal feet, including four (4) 90 degree bends, gets you to the outside?
I think the end cap on my run is worth an equivalent 15 feet or so. Yours might, too.
Let's say your four 90s and your end cap add up to an equivalent duct run of 75 feet, and your in-between straights add up to a total of 25 feet. That is 100 feet total, which is the capacity of the GE Monogram model ZV750SY that we are using.
What is the capacity of your hood, in duct run equivalent length?
You understand correctly.
I guess I would be OK with the model you are mentioning. I have not purchased the hood yet for this project - just planning.
I am also looking for some experience with these "at the limit" runs to see if there are any things I may want to avoid or be sure to do. . .
The Monogram site has downloads for installation, and I would assume many other hood makers have the same. I'll bet they all compute the drags the same, re the fittings and turns.
Flex duct makes things worse. Plan your runs with the plain old rigid 6" circular, if you can, or the rectangular size, which I believe is 3 x 10.
