Ok, maybe the use of “DC” will allow me to place this thread here? (then again, SYSOPS may move it to the tavern, or general discussion? we’ll see!)
“DC” – as in DIGITAL CAMERA <g>
You’re using them: sharing pics of job progress with clients, here on BT to help illustrate a point or situation; to support insurance claims, to teach a Rhodefest seminar, etc etc! So yeah, I can say they get used as a TOOL. (And I’ll probably still get vetoed!?!)
Here’s the deal: seeking to buy my first DC. Have bucks saved up to blow on it. Prefer something where I can read the instructions once, misplace ’em, and thereafter let intuition of the buttons/features take over. Must take decent shots indoors and out. Prefer something stout enuf to get dropped once in awhile and still work. (I’m tough on toys…whoops – I mean, TOOLS.) If it is on the smaller side so I can tuck it in a pocket & travel with it easily – all’s the better.
Please, drag yerselves away from the DNC speeches for a minute and tell me what you have, how ya like it, would you recommend it/why? If I can get to some conclusion soon enuf, I’ll have something to show at Mike’s place to help explain my past, current, and future (planned) projects! Tks in advance for helping!

Can get about 100+ at 3.2..
Irfanview helps shrink them to postable/emailable size..but thats anther story.
I researched consumer reports and it was rated right high..might beem 500$ now that I think about it.

help this newbie out - I want to print this STRING of posts - but see under "Options" tab, on each post, can print each msg - and apparently ONLY that msg. IS there a way to print the whole string?
easiest I think is to copy and email it to your self..start highlighting it ALL, copy it, paste in mail, or a word doc. and print..or I can email it to you ok

I picked up a Casio 4 mega a few months back for work. Great camera, limited software but it does what I want. It's handy.Quality repairs for your home.

I thank you!
I got a Cannon Digital Rebel in December. Wow. Been wanting a DC for a long time, but always wanted a wider angle lens than most came with. When the Rebel came out at the end of last year I just couldn't resist anymore, and made the purchase. The deciding factor was that it came with a 28 - 80 lens and will accept all my other Canon lenses.
Down side it that it is a bit large and expensive to have kicking around in the van. Bought a Pelican case for it and now it is well protected.
Need to find a home for it in the van so that it is with me all the time.
Expensive, but a great camera.
er - please give me your definition of "expensive"?
er - please give me your definition of "expensive"?
He meant over $1000 for the body. For me expensive is something that's not worth the price.
I have a Sony P-7 for two years now, like it very much. Except it would make people look more plum because of the small lens. I am planning on getting a Panasonic (DMZ 10? or something like that). $500 on the net. Leica lens. Recommended by numerous photo buffs. Good all around DC.
Expesive in this case was $900.00 for camera with a 28-80 lens. It also came with a lithium Ion battery and charger, USB cable and standard software. I got it at a 10% off deal. They sell at Best Buy here all the time for $1000.00. You would think at that price they would at least include a memory card - they don't.
The way I justified it to myself was that I have a few rather expesive Canon lenses already that I can use on this body (100-300 and fixed 500). Also really wanted the wide angle capability for shooting interior shots of remodels.
Lot of nice features including 6.3 megapixel pictures.
Yes, it is a tool...a very important tool for documenting and comunicating!!!
More a tool than a cell phone. (DC doesn't BS...straight soop only)
I use an OLympus d-460...have for three years.
It is good enough that you can lay a set of clear prints on the floor, stand on a 5-gal bucket, adjust to fill the screen, click it, and carry back to the desk at home.
Pull it up on the screen....and most of the time(except for bad prints) be able to read the dimensions for take-offs or send to a truss company for a quote.
Both my daughters purchased same unit number....they don't do blueprints...but do send us lots of pics of grandson and neat places they go.
Do-it, you won't regret it, but get a middle-upper in the line...$350 to $500.

Tks! My last 35mm was an Olympus and so I'm a bit familiar with the brand, but not the model you mentioned. Will ck it out more tks to your info so kindly provided.
I have a Canon Powershot digital elph, and I really like it. Mine's an S200, which is a 2 megapixel camera - they have 3 and 4 mp ones now, but for my purposes this one is fine. I use it all the time for work (I'm an engineer and use it for documentation on construction projects.) I find the pictures are plenty clear enough to look at on my computer screen; I can print them at 8x10 and they look pretty good, but they are sharper when printed at 5x7.
What I like best about it is its size and construction - it's very small, about the size of a pack of cigarettes, so it easily fits in my pocket, and it's made of stainless steel so it's pretty tough.
It's pretty easy to use. It has a bunch of extra functions I hardly ever bother with - I just turn it on and push the button, and the pictures come out great almost all the time.
I have a 256mB memory card, and with 2mp I can take a couple hundred pictures without running out of memory space. Battery life is pretty good, too - it uses a specific battery (it's a little rectangular thing) but the camera comes with a charger, and I've taken a couple hundred pictures on a single charge.

The new Olympus DC's are 100% DC engineered. Lenes are even color corrected...

http://www.thenikonmall.com ....
I think that's the right addy ...
it's Nikon's factory direct sales place .. and they have factory direct reconditioned cams ...
Got my Nikon Coolpics 5000 there about a year ago ...
was retailing for around $800-$900 at the time ...
paid about $450 or so ... reconditioned ... full warrenty
5 meg ... full adjustable big flip out screen ... all the factory accessories ...
that fold out and up and around screen is one option I didn't really think I'd need .. and I wouldn't buy another without it!
can go from full auto to mostly manual ... when I learn how ... to replicate the days back in the photo class in college .. we're talking 2 years ... classes one and two! ...
so I can either snap a quick shot ... or play around and pretend like I know what I'm doing ...
I did tons of research ... then agreed with Mike Smith that the Nikons were the best .. and the best deal.

Well, there are so many good DCs out there that it was hard to make final decision and commit. And y'all sure made it clear that "everyone likes what they've got".
I ordered a Sony DSC-V1 with kit, from Overstock.com. With expedited shipping, I expect about 5 days from now I'll be mulling over the instructions and playing with it. If ya see me post a jpg in some other thread, you'll know I've figgered it out! LOL!
