Where do you live and how much do you need? 'round here I can get it from asking around the port. or coast guard station
It is to trim around a pool. The dock at the bay look. I live in south NJ. And I need 80' length or two @ 40'. The rope could be worn matter of fact that might give off a better look. But no oil or grease on it. Thanks, Jeff
The next time the USS. George Washington is in port ask if they have any extra.
Might be kinda small for big George though.
TDo not try this at home!

yah all my friends and family that were in the navy are all out. I might head down to the ship yard to just see if I could get some. You never know.

$6 an inch, minimum length 6 fathoms.
Where would you like it delivered? There's a bunch of them at that search. What's the project? Joe H
or hte naval shipyard...possibly a surplus store
What kind of dog do you own and where do you live? So I can stay away.....very far away. :)
As a matter of fact I got two choc labs. That have gotten my into trouble with the law. I might just strap on that 3" rope around the ones neck. She is a lil escape artist. Gotten out of every thing! over and under a 6' fence. Opened up the sub floor, opened doors, broke a steel cable, chewed two tethers, and runs out the door when you open it, even though you look at her and she appears to be sleeping. Court date is set for July and I had to post $200 for allowing my dog to run loose :( Oh bye the way just finished there new pad set the whole thing in concrete. Plus have cable covering the top corners. No more scaling the walls or digging out!!!!!
There's easier ways to clean out a three inch waste line than that.
LOL
Just a couple of things. I think what your looking for is 9" mooring line. This would be 3" thick. The mooring line will not be your traditional hemp, it will be braided nylon. If you get it used, it would be best to get if off a fresh water vessel or it may be saturated with salt and all sorts of odd little sea creatures. In otherwords, it will tend to stink like dead fish for a while. Ships will give you the bad part not the good stuff and the bad part is what gets dragged through the water when they retrieve it from the tug boats.
I would be suprised if you got any from a ship. Normally that stuff is considered no longer safe to use and is recycled by a contract recycler upon the ships arrival. Ship yards and Tug Boat companys likely follow the same rule of thumb. If you've ever seen a 9" mooring line snap you would know why they recycle it into plastic bags or discard it at sea.
Heres a link to a company that sells the stuff new but you are going to pay big bucks for it:
