I have aquired eight 4×8 sheets of LP siding for less than a $1 each….
I’m about to start on the ends of gambrel roof. The framework is 2×6 framing on 16″ centers. I’ll be using the 4×8 sheets of Hardiboard for the outside surfaces. The two end walls of the top floor are 16′ wide and 10′ tall in the gambrel roof framework.
What do you think of using the LP siding sheets as the sheathing, 30lb tar paper, and the Hardiboard sheets? What’s the Pro’s and Con’s of using the LP as Sheathing?
Thanks,
Bill

LP makes more than one kind of 4x8 sheets.
ABT and SmartSiding or two. Might even make plain plywood and osb also.
What do you have?

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Bill,
The sheets look like 3/8", 8" on center, Smart Side Panels.

The thickness (thinness) could throw things off (at windows, eg). The stuff probably won't satisfy the BI where bracing is required. Also won't be very nailable if you were planning to nail to it between studs. Could be a bit of a PITA in terms of getting nails through it and into the studs when siding (though probably not).
With those caveats, should work.
