Hey guys looking for any information regarding lvl beams. I was told by the local lumber yard i could use 2 lvl beams, glued, nailed together to carry a second floor over a 18 foot span. each lvl is 1.75 x 14 x 18. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have to check the manufacturers span tables for this.

In my neck of the woods (the northwest) lvls are on the way out. This is due to their cupping which tends to pull the nails. This leaves one beam (in multiple beam applications) carrying the majority of the load. Look into paralams, they are straight and seem to hold up well during the construction process.

Since you don't ask any specific questions about LVL beams, it's hard to know what to tell you. A 14" beam doesn't seem very deep for an 18' span, if it carries much weight at all. Did someone at the lumberyard actually Calc the thing out, or is this just a "serat of the pants" guess at what would carry it? Any roof load on it? Is it in an interior wall or exterior?
Mark makes a good point about checking with the manufacturer.
Adam, I know LVLs tend to cup. I believe it's because they are stored outside, and they cup when they dry unevenly. Since they are generally bought in 60' lengths, it's not practical to store them inside.
