For new construction, what size water meter is everybody using.
My old house has a 5/8″ water tap / meter and about 150′ of 3/4″ pipe to the house, and it is almost enough flow / pressure.
The new house will need about 340′ of pipe, so I am thinking that 5/8″ is not the answer. The new house is 2,200 sq. ft. two bathrooms. NO sprinkler system, but my wife likes to water all of her new plants a lot.
So, 3/4″ tap / meter and 1″ pipe, or 1″ tap/meter and 1-1/4″ (?) pipe. Going from 3/4″ to 1″ is about $500 extra for tap and impact fees. I don’t know what the larger pipe would cost me.
Looking at the difference in cross sectional area between 5/8″ and 1″ makes the 1″ look like way overkill.

What is the water pressure at the main? And is there any elevation differences between the main and house?
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I do not know what the water pressure at the main will be. It is the city water system, so it will have to meet certain minimums, but I have no idea what those are.
There is about a 20 foot rise from the water main to the house.
