Makita BMR100

OverKnight | Posted in Tools for Home Building on October 15, 2006 09:04am

Does anyone have the Makita BMR100 jobsite radio? How do you like it?

The only cordless tools I have are Makita, so it makes sense that I’d get their radio. It looks a lot smaller that the ghetto blasters other tool companies are putting out. The only negatives I’ve heard, which I’d like to confirm, are 1) it will run off of Makita batteries, but will not charge them, and 2) it comes with an “AC adapter”. The lack of charging capability isn’t a deal-breaker for me, but if the AC adapter is one of those bricks that plug into an outlet, then no deal.

Thanks.

I saw the new makita compact drill... that sucker is sweet. weighs nuthin' and the batteries are smaller. Curious about the radio also... i saw it retail for 99.99

I've heard, here I think, that Dewalt owns the rights to the charger/player radio idea.  Don't know about the A/C adapter though.  Most likely it does have the transformer on the plug-in end though.  I don't know why they don't just put the transformer inside the radio.

Thanks, Woodguy. I hadn't heard about DeWalt owning rights to charger-radios. Don't the Bosch and Milwaukee radios charge their batteries?I hate those AC adapter bricks. I agree, unless the AC adapter would add too much weight or size to a product, it should be built in.

"Don't the Bosch and Milwaukee radios charge their batteries?"

Milwaukee doesn't charge the bats. The newest version will run off both their nicads and lithium batteries. A fully charged V28 bat has run my radio for a couple of days. A built in charger would be great.

Like VTNorm said, Milwaukee's radio doesn't charge its batteries.  They have a 3-gang charger though.  Don't know about the Bosch, but I'm pretty sure it's the same story.

Have you found one for sale in the U.S.?? Where? I keep searching for them and find that they are not really sold here.

I saw it on the interweb, it must be true.
