Makita LS1013 sliding compound repair
My Makita 10″ sliding compound model LS 1013 has been a great work horse for many years.
I have two small problems I would like to repair. I hope someone has done the repairs already.
– the slider will not lock in place and moves around when moving.
It will not stop automatically at the 45 and 0 degree Marks

If you flip it upside down you can see the detents filled with sawdust. Clean it with a blast of air and use some drylube(graphite) on the rod and spring that fits into the detents.

Thank you I try that to-night
Howabout the problem of not being able to lock the slide?? any Ideas

The dual locking knob assembly sometimes gets out of whack and while you might be tightening your mitre stop the threaded rod has become loose to the slide stop. It will seem tight and if you force it you can break it. When you turn the saw over to clean the dust buildup in the mitre detents look at the clamshell dvice on the rod it only takes a little adjustment to fix. Its funny I worked with this saw for years before buying it from my boss and it had the same two problems you mention, an hour of cleaning and its as tight as new. Its not a bad idea to take the saw arm assembly offf and clean and grease the stops, just don't lose the spring loaded detent balls. By the way I favor electircal connection cleaner, compressed air and finish it off with pure silicon spray and let it dry before using it again. Do not let WD 40 near this proceedure. WD has its uses, but it will gum this up. Trust me on this one.
silicone: not worried about fisheye on finish later?my slider does not want to miter very well......just recently got very stiff. ideas?
Yesterday, my LS1013's slide was hanging up. The blade would not quite reach to the back of the fence. Turned the saw over and found that the clamshell (referred to by PaulT in above post) that clamps the rod assembly was loose. Tightened it and all back to normal.
Worked itself loose after years of riding around the back of the van.
