Makita radio

USAnigel | Posted in Tools for Home Building on October 20, 2007 04:37am

I’m looking at the makita jobsite radio bmr 100. Anyone use one? sound? When you unplug it do you lose the memory for the stations? Does it come with an AC adaptor, I know its not a charger (the ones that do charge I don’t have batterys for)? Reset the clock everytime?

Good sound, NO Ipod input jack, half decent recption, yes 2 AA batts hold the clock and presets, no charger ( only DW and B&D right now have that, DW has the patent), and the Mak will take a 40' drop from a roof to the grass, all it did was loosen the 2 AA's but kept right on playing.

Yes it has a wall wart type ac adapter.

      Sphere,

Actually my Bosch has a charger built in as well,  I think they got around the patent by calling the entire unit a "power box"?

The Makita seems kind of second thought - we better throw this in there, type thing.

I wasn't quite sure about the Bosch, thanks for the heads up.

I recently got a DW, the Mak is my co-criminal on the roof jobs radio of choice, he killed 3 DWs from "gravity experiments".

I personnaly like the DW better.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Bosch got around the patent by adding the CD player and the ground fault plugs.

I Knew there was some sort of genius loophole.

My Bosch radio has been a great jobsite addition, except for the crappy antenna.

The sound is fairly decent,  I bought it thinking it did charge batteries.  Much to my suprise it doesn't.

It does keep the presets with the AA's.  ANd it's fairly gravity resistant.

The Wal-mart chord is lacking quality.  But I got it for $75 so I am not going to complain about it.

I don't know if the Makita has this feature but the ability to plug 4 cords into the Bosch radio is a HUGE plus. That being said, if you are not getting a radio with a compatable charger for your batteries I think it makes more sense to go with a boom box and a pair of three ways/spiders/whatever you call them.

I ordered via Amazon for $75 with free shipping. Thanks for everyones input. The ipod thing I don't have, 6 way multi socket strip takes care of the socket thing and I have many chargers to use. (would be a nice touch )

Ditto to what Sphere said. Been pleased with mine. Mine's taken a few tumbles and is still works fine- it seems pretty tough. There's new version of this radio, the BMR100W. It has an input for iPod/mp3 players, it's white instead of blue, and it costs more are about the only differences I can see.

    Why bother?

Got one. They tossed it in on a LiOn tool purchase. Like the tools.
Radio lacks mp3 jack, which means it's obso. It does not go out on jobs. My Sansa e280 does.

However it does have snooze alarm, etc.

If I had to spend money for this type of item, I can buy an acceptable boombox, AM/FM/CD WITH mp3 jack at Wal Mart for $25. Done that.

In the last 20 years I carried a radio with tape and cd, never used either, so I went with something tougher. Its more for some noise in the background than anything worth hearing!

As I understand this jobsite radio thing, you set up a boom box, bicker over what to play, then blast the neighbors (if any) so you can hear something over the saws and the guns and the compressor, etc.Want to hear what you want to hear, or what they want to hear? Guys, this aria from Mdm. Butterfly really rocks. You see, she is in deep denial...Last box I saw was authentic - a POS boombox with a bit of copper wire twisted around the stump of the antenna, covered in splatters of mud and paint. As I usually work solo, I use Sansa mp3 palyers with a variety of headsets - behind the neck joggers (works very well), noise canceling (could not hear the wife banging on the door - looked up, saw it move in and out, pulled one out - banging with an attitude), etc.On occasion I pull out my boom boxlet - a powered speaker set for the mp3s - and hook it to my work cart.Another take on the issue, in the line of hearing protection and personal choice in music: Pelton RaceTunes 22 AM/FM radio headset (WITH MP3 JACK). For the NASCAR fans, for some reason. Unlike WorkTunes, this has the external audio jack. What we really need is a jobsite intercom system built into the RaceTunes so you can talk and listen. The ToolBear

The new improved Bosch Powerbox is the best on the market. I bought the original Bosch that had a badly designed radio antenna (it was a thin plastic covered wire that kept getting torn/lost. The new one's have a solid antenna like a computer router. Besides that, the powerbox has great sound, digital tuning, a CD player, Four GFCI protected 110 plug ins, a cigarette lighter input to charge your cellphone, an auxiliary jack to use your MP3 player, it's in a charger for Bosch batteries, AND it's in a protective cage to it won't get hurt if it's dropped off the roof.

I own the Milwaukee, Dewalt, and did have the Makita (Gave it to an employee as a bonus.) If you still want to get the Makita, if you have those batteries---Get the white NOT the blue Makita----it's MP3 compatible while the blue isn't.
